Note on the spelling of Ramplin(g): Whilst the children of 54 Albert Ernest Ramplin were all registered with that spelling, by the time they married they had added a "g" to the name, which has continued down the generations. Intermittently Rampling was used in various register entries, but Ramplin seems to have been more common

Note: The East Anglian Daily Times reports:
On Monday the Borough Coroner held an inquest at the Argyle-Street Schoolroom on the body of Sarah Maria Pollard, Hervey Street, who died suddenly on Christmas Day, the anniversary of her 59th birthday, while in the act of getting dinner ready. Eliza Jane Vince, wife of Robert Vince, residing at 41, Duke Street, St Clement's, stated that deceased was her mother. About two o'clock deceased began to take up the dinner and witness, being seated in the next room, heard her call and going in found her on the floor, which was a brick one. Deceased was with assistance picked up. Witness had seen deceased just before the fall. Deceased had made no complaint of her health in the morning. James Pollard, hay trusser, identified the body as that of his wife.
On Saturday deceased heard his daughter Eliza call him and say, "Oh, father, mother has fallen down". He went into the kitchen and saw his wife, who appeared to have fallen sideways, lying on her right side. There was no carpet on the floor. Life was found to be extinct. She had not been coughing so much in the last few days of her life, but she had complained of her heart, which was nothing unusual. Robert James Vince, newsagent, husband of the first witness said that his mother-in-law appeared quite well when he saw her about a quarter before two. He was called in by his wife after the fall and found deceased on the floor. He and Mr Pollard lifted her, and he only felt her breathe once afterwards. He saw no bruises. Mr Samuel O. Eades, surgeon, stated that he was called to Hervey Street about half past two on Christmas Day to see the body and found no bruises. The floor was smooth. Deceased was on her back on a couch when he saw her. From the evidence he had heard of the suddenness of the death, he should say death was due to the failure of the heart's action, which produced syncope. About two months before he had attended her. She must have died in the fall. She lost no blood. From his knowledge of the nature of deceased's complaint, he should have said she might have died suddenly at any time. Verdict: 'Death from syncope, resulting from failure of the heart's action'
