Note on the spelling of Ramplin(g): Whilst the children of 54 Albert Ernest Ramplin were all registered with that spelling, by the time they married they had added a "g" to the name, which has continued down the generations. Intermittently Rampling was used in various register entries, but Ramplin seems to have been more common

Note: Charles was a butcher in Braintree in 1841 and by 1851 he was a master butcher employing one man and farmer of 50 acres employing 3 men in Braintree. 1861 saw him still a butcher (employing 1 man and 1 boy), as well as being a farmer of 60 acres in Braintree (employing 4 man and one boy) He moved to a 108 acre farm at Panfield where he employed 4 men and 3 boys, and by 1881 this had changed to 5 labourers and one boy.
Note: Sarah married as a widow Samuel CUTTING, widower 12 Jun 1810. Witnesses were John Garrard and William Buckledee

Note: At his marriage at age 19 Thomas was a labourer. Emma was the daughter of Thomas FARTHING, a labourer and Mary ELMER and was first cousin to Thomas. Although the record shows Thomas' surname as RAMPLING, he signed the certificate RAMPLIN; she made her mark. Witnesses were Walter LLOYD and Jane LLOYD. In 1881 James and Sarah RAMPLIN were living at Hole Farm, Whatfield with Thomas, Emma and their child Albert. James was entered as a pauper.
