The following extracts are taken from A History of Caston by John S. Barnes

Part 3 pp 63-64 (in part)

"THE COURT ROLLS

The Court Rolls comprise the record of the manor. The unbroken records occupy nine large books.

Many of the Courts have formal introductions as, for example, that for 1762:-

The General Court Baron of William Windham Esqe there held for the said Manor the twenty Sixth day of October in the Third year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Third by the Grace of God of great Britain, France and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith and so forth. And in the Year of our Lord One Thousand seven Hundred and Sixty two before:

Edward Harvey Gentleman Deputy Steward

Of Wm. De Grey Esq Capital Steward there

Homage

Richard Cater

Robert Francklin

Thos. Springall

Robert Swann

The Homage usually comprised the principal copyholders of the manor. They were the Lord's local officers, well able to make enquiries and make representations to the Court. The Homage was the name given to the jury of the Manor court."

Part 3 p71 "During this period there were living in the village two families about which it would be interesting to discover more details. There was the Francklin family of whom Robert, surgeon, and his wife Susannah have a tablet in Caston church."

The following extracts are taken from the Will of Robert Francklin. Proved at Norwich, 3 Jan 1801.

"This is the last Will and Testament of me Robert Francklin of Caston in the County of Norfolk, Surgeon."

"I give one moiety or half part of the said ? monies unto my Daughter Mary the wife of Thomas Howes and the other moiety or half part of such monies I give and bequeath to my Daughter Juliana the wife of John Hardy and further it is my will that if either or both my said Daughters shall die in my lifetime or before their said legacies shall become due and payable that nevertheless such Legacy or Legacies shall not lapse but be paid to the Executors or Administrators of my said Daughters - respectively. And I do hereby give And bequeath unto the said Mary and Juliana my two Daughters all my personal estate of what nature or kindsoever to be divided share and share alike between them by my Executors immediately after my disease after paying thereout all my just Debts funeral and other expenses. And lastly revoking all former wills by me made I do appoint the said John Fairfax Francklin Sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this twenty eighth day of January in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred.

(Signature of Robert Francklin)

Signed sealed published and declared by the said Robert Francklin as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who in his presence at his request and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses to the due execution.

Signatures of

John Parsley

George Beaumont

Thos. Starkes

Sole Executor

John Fairfax Francklin

I don't know if ROBERT FRANCKLIN was related to John Fairfax Francklin in any way but there is a note in the Attleborough Parish Register saying "John Fairfax Francklin MA Rector of this Parish 29 years died 26 October and was buried 2 November 1802 aged 61 years", which suggests that he was more likely to be of the generation after Robert Francklin.
