WILL OF JAMES RICHMOND 1796



In the Name of God Amen
I, James Richmond, of Lowestoft in the County of Suffolk, Gentleman, being of sound mind and perfect memory praised be to Almighty God for the same Do make publish and declare this to be my last Will and Testament in manner and form following:

that is to say ffirst I give and devise all those my messuages or tenements lands hereditaments and premises with their appurtenances situated and being in Beccles in the County of Suffolk and now in the occupation of William Elury and James Scotchual Taylor And also___that my messuage or tenement land hereditaments and premises with their appurtenances situated and being in Lowestoft in the County of Suffolk and now in my own occupation And all my Real and Personal Estates whatsoever and wheresoever to be sold and the money arising therefrom to be equally divided betwixt my three Daughters share and share alike.

One part to my Daughter Tryphany Allen wife of Robt Allen and one part to my Daughter Elizabeth Ibrooke wife of John Ibrooke And the other part to my Daughter Lucy Brown wife of John Brown

And likewise all my ffurniture, plate, Sheets and Pillow Cases, Table Cloths and my Watch and Cloaths the whole to be equally divided betwixt my above mentioned three Daughters.

And my further desire is that my three Daughters Tryphany Allen and Elizabeth Ibrooke and Lucy Brown should allow my beloved Wife Mary Richmond sometimes called Jane Maria the sum of fforty pounds a year, to be paid her by them share and share alike yearly and every year by four equal quarterly payments so long as she my beloved wife Mary Richmond sometimes called Jane Maria shall live.
But my desire is that the first quarterly payment from my_____three Daughters should not commence or begin to be paid to my said wife Mary Richmond sometimes called Jane Maria will one year after my decease by reason I have given my beloved wife two twenty pounds Bank Notes to pay the four first quarterly payments with.

And my further desire is that my three Daughters Tryphany Allen and Elizabeth Ibrook and Lucy Brown should each of them give unto my beloved wife Mary Richmond sometimes called Jane Maria a Bond Value two hundred pounds each for the security of the payment of the fforty pounds a year And if either of my three Daughters refuse giving or signing such Bond within fourteen days after my funeral, then my will and desire is that my beloved wife Mary Richmond sometimes called Jane Maria should have full power to enter and to sell all that my Dwelling House Messuage or Tenement in Lowestoft and ffurniture and Plate that was therein at my decease and to take the money arising therefrom to her own sole and separate use without any molestation or dispute whatsoever

And my further desire is if my wife should like better to go to housekeeping rather than go to Board Then my desire is that my three Daughters should let my said wife Mary Richmond sometimes called Jane Maria have two Beds Sheets and other ffurniture out of the said house that she now lives in as will furnish a small house fit for herself and a Girl to live in

And then my further desire is that my said wife should give unto my three Daughters a Bond Value Twenty Pounds for the security of the Goods that they shall lend her to make use on so long as she shall live and to be returned to my three Daughters at her decease

And two Inventories to be taken of the Goods delivered to my said wife the one to be left with my three Daughters and other to be left with my wife But if my beloved Wife should refuse to give my three Daughters a Bond for to have them things returned that they lent her to make use on or ever Marry again after my decease then my desire is that she should have only the fforty pounds a year to be paid her quarterly by my three Daughters as above mentioned

And my further desire is that my three Daughters should Bury my said wife wherever it shall please God to call her and to do it in a very decent manner

And so I do hereby nominate and appoint my three Daughters to be my Executrixes and my good ffriend Mr Thos Tripp Merchant to be my executor of this my last Will and Testament And I do hereby revoke all former wills formerly made by me at any time heretofore made and do declare this only to be my last Will and Testament In witness whereof I the said James Richmond the testator have to this my last Will and Testament contained and written on two sheets of paper together annexed at the top set my hand and seal that is to say my hand to the first of the said sheets and my hand and seal to the last sheet and also my seal at the top of the first of the said sheets were they are annexed together this twenty third day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety six

Ê Ê My will and Desire is to add this Codicil to the other part of my Will written and contained on two sheets of paper annexed together and sealed at the top And I have here annexed this Sheet of paper to the other two Sheets which make in all three Sheets of paper annexed together at the top and sealed at the top

Now my will and desire is to alter that part of my Will where I have given my beloved wife Mary Richmond sometimes called Jane Maria leave for my three Daughters to let her my said wife Mary Richmond sometimes called Jane Maria have ffurniture enough for to ffurnish a small house with if she should like better to go housekeeping than Board But I have considered of that part of my Will since and have altered my mind And I now desire that my beloved Wife Mary Richmond sometimes called Jane Maria should have only the fforty pounds a year to be paid her quarterly at four equal quarterly payments at the same time and in the same manner as mentioned in the former part of my will written and contained on two sheets of paper to be paid her every year so long as she shall live

And my further desire is that she should have the Green Bed that we always laid on and all the ffurniture belonging to it there is three large Blankets and two Coverlets and let her have two pair of the best Russia sheets and any of the chest of draws that she like. (This Bed and ffurniture Sheets and Chest of Draws all to be returned to my three Daughters at my above mentioned wifes decease) And my further desire is that my above mentioned Wife at her decease should leave all her Cloaths Linen Rings and Silver Buckles and all her wearing apparel to my said three Daughters Tryphany Allen and Elizabeth Ibrooke and Lucy Brown to be equally divided between them share and share alike and if my said wife Mary Richmond sometimes called Jane Maria do that then my will and desire is that my three Daughters Tryphany Allen and Elizabeth Ibrooke and Lucy Brown should Bury my beloved wife Mary Richmond sometimes called Jane Maria in the same manner as they buried me

But if my said wife Mary Richmond sometimes called Jane Maria should choose rather to give her Cloaths and Linen and Rings and Silver Buckles and all her wearing apparel to any other person or persons than my three Daughters Tryphany Allen and Elizabeth Ibrooke and Lucy Brown then my desire is that the person or persons that she gives them to may Bury my said wife and not my three Daughters for to be at any Expense about the Burying of my wife Mary Richmond but that obligation then of my three Daughters above mentioned be entirely null and void, but my desire is that my three Daughters above mentioned should let my wife Mary Richmond remain in the said house she now live in till they can get her a proper decent place for her to go to Board at which I beg they would do as soon as possible they can

and whenever my said wife be taken sick to be obliged to lay by it or to keep her Bed then I beg and desire my three Daughters or either of them that live near her should visit her as often as they conveniently can
And my further desire is that my three Daughters should let my wife have any Books she likes to have to make use of so long as she shall live and at her decease for them Books to be returned to my said three Daughters again And I further desire that in about eight or nine days after my decease that Mr Thomas Tripp Merchant my Executor and Tryphany Allen and Elizabeth Ibrooke and Lucy Brown my three Executrixes should all of them take an inventory of all my household ffurniture Sheets and Table Linen Plate and China and my Couch and all other ffurniture in the said house belonging to me at the time of my decease this Codicil made the second Day of December
And I do hereby set my hand and seal in the year of our Lord God One thousand seven hundred and ninety six

This Will was proved at London with a Codicil the eighteenth Day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety nine before the Right Honorable Sir William Wynne Knight Doctor of Laws Master Keeper of Commissary of the Perogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the Oaths of Tryphany Allen wife of Robert Allen and Elizabeth Ibrooke wife of John Ibrooke the Daughters of the deceased and two of the Executors named in the said will to whom Administration was granted of all and singular few Goods Chattels and Credits of the said deceased having been first sworn by Commission only to Administer Power reserved of making the like Grant to Lucy Brown wife of John Brown and Thomas Tripp the other Executors named in the said Will when they or either of them shall apply for the same.
