Codicil to will of John Edmonds proved 1822

Whereas I John Edmonds of Lowestoft in the County of Suffolk, Twine Spinner, having made my last will and testament in writing bearing date the twenty fifth day of February One Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifteen.

Now I do declare this writing to be a codicil to my said Will and direct that the same be taken as part thereof.

And whereas I appointed my dear wife Sarah and my friends Benjamin Brown and John Rogers executrix and executors of my said Will And the said John Rogers having since departed this life I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my friend John Barker of Lowestoft aforesaid Cooper executor thereof in the place of the said John Rogers.

And having since I made my said Will become possessed of the Tenement or Dwelling House in which I now reside in Lowestoft aforesaid. I do by this said codicil give and devise the said Tenement or Dwelling House with the Edifices, Buildings, Yard and appurtenances thereto belonging unto my said wife and her assigns for and during the term of her natural life.

She keeping the same premises in good and tenantable repair and committing and suffering no waste thereupon. And from and after the decease of my said wife I do hereby authorise and empower and direct my said Executors and the survivor of them his Executors or Administrators to make sale and absolutely dispose of my said Tenement or Dwelling House with the Edifices, Buildings, Yard and appurtenances thereto belonging in the same manner and for the same purposes as I have empowered them to sell and dispose of my Office of Fish houses in and by my said Will.

And whereas I have in and by my said Will directed that my said Executrix and Executors should if they think fit and not otherwise continue and carry on so long as they think proper for the benefit of my family all or any part of my trades

Now my mind and will is that when they shall determine not to carry on my Twine Spinning trade for the benefit of my said family my said Executrix and Executors and the survivors or survivor of them and the Executors or Administrators of such survivors do and shall before they proceed to sale thereof make an offer of all my Stock in the said Twine Spinning Trade to my son John at a valuation by two indifferent persons one to be chosen by my said son John and the other by my said Executrix and Executors and the survivor or survivors of them and the Executors or Administrators of each survivor and sell the same to my said son if he shall be minded to take it at such valuation and in case my said son John shall become the purchaser of my said Stock in the said Twine Spinning Trade Then and in that case I do hereby authorise and empower order and direct my said Executors and the survivors of them his executors or Administrators before they proceed to a sale of my said Office of Fish Houses and other hereditaments and premises in and by my said Will and this my said codicil directed to be sold by them to make an offer of my said Twine Ground as the same is now fenced in and all the buildings thereto belonging and the little Meadow adjoining it to the path unto my said son John at a valuation thereof as before mentioned and in case of his becoming the purchaser of the said Twine Ground and meadow to convey the same Twine Ground and meadow to any other person or persons in and by my aid Will in case my said son shall decline to become the purchaser thereof in pursuance of the power so to do which is given to him in and by this my said codicil and in all other respects I satisfy and confirm my said Will.

In witness whereof I have to this my codicil contained in three sheets of paper affixed together at the tops and also affixed to my said will to each of the said sheets set my hand and to the last sheet also set my seal this thirty first day of August in the Year of Our Lord one thousand and eight hundred and twenty one.
