Note: Denise Hammond has memories of visiting as a young child with Reginald and Dorothy Hammond (her grandparents). She remembers "Grandpa" as a smallish elderly man who walked with a stick and had a comp
letely bald, shiny head. He was a very kindly man who always pressed a few pennies in her hand when she visited.
He lived in a smallholding in Damascus Lane, Boreham.

56......Edward dob unknown d in early 1970s
Note: Edward lived with Albert in Boreham, Essex on a smallholding. Cremated in Ipswich early 1970's. His ashes were scattered on Albert Hammond's grave in Boreham. No memorial.
Ed had an accident as a child and fell in a pond. It took some time to revive him and, through lack of oxygen, became brain damaged. Ed used to play with Denise in the fields and orchards at the back of the bungalow they lived in.
He spent his life being cared for - and living with - Albert Hammond and was placed in a home in the Ipswich area by Reginald Hammond (his brother) upon Albert Hammond's death, where he lived out his days.
57......Tom dob unknown
Note: Fred moved to Nacton, Suffolk and worked on Pond Hall Farm as a farm labourer. He moved around where ever there was work, including a farm in Ashbocking and Rookery Farm in Wenham.
Whilst a farm worker, he fell off a farm wagon and the wheel ran over his leg. Consequently his leg was broken and he was left with a limp for the rest of his life.

Note: Reg worked as a grocer from 1937 to 1969, owning Darcy Stores at the Manor House, Tolleshunt Darcy, Essex. He delivered groceries in cardboard boxes to villagers in local area as well as serving in the shop. Helper in shop and house was Betty CLOVER.He used to shelter with the children under the bed in the main front bedroom when bombs were falling during the 2nd world war.
The house was said to be haunted and Reg saw a young girl in tudor dress in the upstairs corridor. He spoke to her and she ran into the end bedroom. He followed her, but couldn't find her. He went down
stairs and asked his wife who was the girl staying with them, but there was no one other than their granddaughter, Denise.
He loved gardening and managed huge garden, 3 ponds and acres of orchards at Darcy. Most are now gone and houses built on some of the land, although his house and smaller part of garden were still there in 2003. He moved to Felsham, Suffolk on retirement but had
suffered all his life from heart problems, having had 3 heart attacks.
Dorothy was known to have worked for Marjory Allingham as a cook in the 1930's - known as "the Duchess" by various friends and relatives as she had quite a well-to-do manner about her.
She claimed all her life to be related to the Queen Mother, Elizabeth Bowes Lyon and left some information on her death linking her to a Captain Able Smith, a cousin of the Queen Mother.
her father was a grave digger, and she was in the services when she was young, based in Bexhill on Sea, Sussex.
