WILL OF ABRAHAM GREENE 1654
First and principally I commend my soul unto the hands of God my creator, trusting assuredly through the only mercy of Jesus Christe to receive pardon and forgiveness of all my sinnes, and my bodye I commit to the earth to be decently buried in a Christian burial at the discretion of my executors hereinafter named. And as considering that worldly state which it hath pleased God to lend me in this world, I give and dispose as followeth.
Also I give and dispose to Dennis my loving wife during her natural life the sum of tenn pounds of lawful english monie to be payed to her on her ......by my two sonnes Abraham GREENE and Hugh GREEN ..... ..... administrators on Shignoe haulf that is to say yearely by equal portions at the ffirst day of St Michael Archangel and at the annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the payment thereof to begin at the ffirst of the said ffeasts which shall happen immediately after my decease.
Also I give to Dennis my wife for the rest of her natural life her dwelling on my tenement called "Blakes" with the oxen... now in the occupation of John WORMAN provided
And my mind and will is that if default of payment shall be made of the said summe of tenne pounds of lawful English monie yearely at the ffeast days before herein mentioned for the payment thereof then my mind and will is that the said Dennis my wife shall have power and authority into all or any of my lande or tenements hereinafter mentioned and given by this my last will and testament unto my said two sons Abraham GREENE and Hugh GREENE to ..... and distrain and the farme and every part thereof to enjoy with all the proffit and comodities whatsoever until shee the said Dennis my wife be fully paid the said summe at the several days of payment as aforesaid.
Also I give and bequeath unto Abraham GREENE my sonne one piece of land lying in greate Shelden which said piece of land lyeth there nearest to my house where I now dwell; Also I give and bequeath unto my sonne Hugh GREEN one other piece of land lying in greate Shelden aforesaid, to have and to hold to them, the said Abraham and Hugh my two sonnes and to their heirs for ever
Also I will that my said two sonnes Abraham GREEN and Hugh GREEN shall yearly and every year during the natural life of my said Dennis my wife one ....cart load of wood and shall from tyme to tyme unload the same at the dwellinge and howse of Dennis my wife for her firing. Also I give and bequeath unto the said Dennis my wife all my household stuff and during the rest of her natural life
Also I give and bequeath unto Sarah GREENE my daughter one halfe headed bedstead which standeth upon the chamber as it is now furnished, and one coope and brasse pot, one skillet and the chaire old with said household stuff by me formerly given unto the said Dennis my wife (immediately after her decease)
I will and my meaning is shall descend ........[section indecipherable] my sonne Abraham GREENE. Also I give and bequeath unto my said sonne Abraham GREENE all those my two tenements being free and coppihold the one called by the name of Blakey and the other by the name of Smartes or ....... lying in Lindsey aforesaid with all and singular the land and premises to the same and either of them belonging. And also I give and bequeath unto Abraham GREENE my sonn all that my meadow called ..abtane ...... or otherwise in which said tenement and land and premises I give and bequeath unto Abraham GREENE and to his heirs for ever.
And that my sonne Abraham GREENE shall pay or cause to be paid unto the said Hugh GREENE my sonne the sum of thirty pounds of lawful English monie within one year after my decease. Also I give and bequeath unto the said Hugh GREENE my sonne all that my tenement situate in Warreswode in Lindsey aforesaid with all and singular the land and appurtenances thereunto belonging and one piece of land called Wellbrook now in my own occupation to have to the said Hugh GREENE and his heirs paying unto my executor for the tilth thereof as two indifferent men shall advise of the same to be worth.
Also I give unto Prudence DYER my daughter the summe of twentie pounds of lawful English monie within one yeare next after my decease by mine executor hereinafter named. Also I give and bequeath unto Sarah GREENE my daughter the summe of thirtie pounds of like monie within two yeares or next after my decease by my executorhereinafter named
Also I give unto my daughter Joane TILER the summe of tenn shillings of like monie within six months next after my decease
And I doe nominate and make my said sonne Abraham executor of this my said will desiring him to be tru and carefull in performance thereof in witness whereof I have hereunto put my hand and seale the day and yeare ffirst above written
